Dental Radiography is a modern technique used for visualization of internal teeth structure. As it is an X-ray imaging technology, it allows the display of images in which the dental anatomy is clearly highlighted. It helps dentists to identify problems that are not visible by bare eye and to develop proper treatment plans accordingly. Traditional radiography methods such as conventional film-based radiography have been replaced with advanced digital radiography techniques. Digital radiography works by passing X-ray radiation, generated from a targeted source, through tooth tissue. A special sensor plate, attach to dental X-ray machine, captures the images. The images are then directly loaded into the computer and can be viewed on the screen. The advantages of digital dental radiography compared to traditional radiography include a higher image resolution, less patient radiation dose, fast imaging process, easy exchange of images to other systems, and easier archivability. Digital images can be manipulated using computer softwares to allow the manipulation of brightness, contrast and other visualization elements in order to enhance the viewing of the images and aid in accurate diagnosis. Dental radiography is a powerful tool that allows dentists to diagnose and monitor dental problems quickly and accurately. It is used for many dental treatments such as fillings, crowns, bridges, root canal therapy and in observation of cysts and other internal lesions. Dental radiography is also used to detect conditions like dental caries, periodontal diseases, fractures and bone abscess. It also helps assess the development of adult teeth in children and to evaluate any changes in the surrounding jaw or maxillofacial bone.
