Endodontics is a dental specialty that deals with the study, diagnosis, and a treatment of the dental pulp and therefore, the tissues encompassing the basis of the tooth. Endo is a Greek word inside, whereas "odont" is a Greek word tooth. Dental medicine treatment involves the treatment of the soft pulp tissues within the tooth. The dental pulp is the innermost a part of the tooth. The pulp is protected by the outer a part of the tooth, the enamel, yet as by the dentin that lies beneath the enamel. This difficult casing of the pulp protects it from turning into infected by the microbes there within the mouth. In cases of Dental caries, this outer shield erodes away to make holes or cavities that expose the dental pulp to those microbes yet on hot and cold temperatures. Since the pulp is made with nerves and blood vessels, infection of the pulp will be caused sensitivity and toothache.
