Dental Anesthesiology is an important sub specialty of dentistry that provides patient care and focuses on dental science. It deals with the administration of anaesthetic agents for dental action or oral surgery. Dental Anesthesiologists offer sedation techniques to manage the behavioural patterns of patients with concentration, anxiety or resistance during oral procedures, thereby increasing patient safety. They also provide pain relief methods for complex extractions, reconstructive and cosmetic dentistry procedures. Their sedation techniques include nitrous oxide/oxygen, intravenous and non-intravenous sedation regimens. Such regimens vary according to the patient's age, present condition and medical history. The primary role of a Dental Anesthesiologist is to ensure safe, comfortable, stress free conditions during the administration of anesthetics. They administer the right dosage of anaesthetizing agents to both pediatric and adult patients. They also monitor vital signs and adjust doses as needed. Apart from performing anaesthesia, dental anesthesiologists also provide post-operative care to recovering patients. Following the procedure, the anesthesiologist monitors the patient's heart rate, pulse rate, and blood pressure. If necessary, they may provide treatments to correct any abnormalities such as maintaining proper oxygen levels. In addition, they also lead pre-operative clearance appointments to assess the patient's condition before the surgery. They explain the possible complications associated with the procedure and answer any questions the patient may have. This helps eliminate any fears or apprehensions patients may have prior to the procedure. By rendering steady and vigilant care throughout the entire process, dental anesthesiologists offer the most secure and comfortable environment for dental procedures. They assist in earning the trust of patients and help them achieve a safe and blissful dental experience.
