Title: New treatment of temporomandibular disorder through muscle balance and muscle regeneration by activation of quiescent muscle stem cells( satellite cells) with mitochondrial dynamics
Abstract:
Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and muscle imbalance are deeply linked, as TMD involves jaw muscle pain/dysfunction, often stemming from imbalances in masticatory (chewing) muscles, poor posture affecting neck/jaw coordination or even weakness, leading to issues like limited jaw movement, clicking and chronic pain, which can further disrupt overall balance and body posture. The temporomandibular joint makes muscular and ligamentary connections to the cervical region, forming a functional complex called the “cranio-cervico-mandibular system. The position of the head over the neck determines the posture of the body and is responsible for the body balance and head movements.
Skeletal muscle is endowed with a remarkable capacity for regeneration, primarily due to the reserve pool of muscle resident satellite cells(muscle stem cells). Muscle imbalances can be remedied and the approach is actually fairly simple, strengthen muscles that are weak and stretch muscles that are tight through muscle regeneration. This review showed that TMD can be dramatically improved through muscle balance and muscle regeneration by activation, proliferation and differentiation of quiescent muscle stem cells of whole body(esp., masticatory muscles) at same time back to original muscle length, strength.
