Abstract:
Clinical knowledge alone does not change patient outcomes behavior does. This course explores the science of behavior change and its direct application in modern dental practice. Designed for all dental professionals, this evidence-based program bridges psychology, communication, and clinical care to help teams move beyond “telling patients what to do” toward fostering sustainable health behaviors.
Participants will examine why traditional patient education often fails, how cognitive biases and social determinants influence oral health decisions, and which communication strategies measurably improve adherence, prevention, and treatment acceptance. The course emphasizes ethical, patient-centered approaches that respect autonomy while supporting long-term behavior change benefiting patients, providers, and practice sustainability.
