Abstract:
Aim: Aim of this presentation is to discuss principals of dental aesthetics from traditional to modern approach.
Introduction: "Smile is a universal language, shared by people all over the world". Your smile says a lot more than you speak. Smile is most important for every individual in this robotic age of life. To create an aesthetic smile in dentistry is organised and systematic approach that is required to evaluate, diagnose and resolve the problems associated with it. Modern smile design is a multidisciplinary science that integrates facial aesthetics, dental composition, and soft tissue harmony using advanced digital tools. Recent dental aesthetics transformed from manual, visual based technique to highly precise digital workflow. Today’s era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced biomaterials, minimal invasive approach, digital smile design, 4D concept opens us wider view of advance tools for achievement of best smile.
Diagnosis: Component considered for diagnosis of smile design not only includes dentition but it has wide inclusion like facial symmetry and profile, gingival health, contour, zenith points, smile line, etc.
Treatment plan: Correction of gingiva and tooth components are two major factors considered for treatment plan. Gingival components include from scaling, polishing to periodontal surgery, use of LASER for angle and zenith correction. Tooth components includes tooth angulation, inclination, morphology, colour, texture, embrasures, proportion, etc. Treatment plan differ as per direct or indirect laminates, veneers, materials used like composite, porcelain, lithium disilicate, zirconia.
Clinical significance: Healthy and aesthetic smile is the utmost important in this age of competition for every individual. Smile correction require thorough knowledge and skill to replicate natural smile. With availability of tooth-coloured materials, nowdays, achieving acceptable natural smile is possible. This presentation includes close insight for smile evaluation, diagnosis and correction with traditional as well as modern approach.
