Title: Minimal Intervention dentistry- A survey of dental educators
Abstract:
Minimal Intervention dentistry is the new format of operative dentistry based on cavity designs based on extension of the lesions, supplemented by preventive measures. The target is the improvement of dental health, instead of destructive principles. A survey was conducted addressing by email to dental educators of North America, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and developing countries. A response of 60% was received. Most of the educators agreed on the need for implementation of minimal intervention in the dental curricula. Most of the respondents deemed that there was no need to extend cavities to buccal and lingual embrasures for amalgam. Esthetic materials were considered conservative as long as proper techniques were used. It was considered that further research was required on new techniques.
