Title: Esthetic and management of congenitally missing anterior teeth
Abstract:
Congenitally missing anterior teeth alters the patient's physiognomy and diction in a big way. Maxillary incisor agenesis, prominently the lateral incisor is the most common congenitally missing permanent tooth, in the anterior maxillary region, which is the esthetic zone, representing approximately 20% of all dental anomalies. Treatment planning is inclusive of; smile design, preparation, perception of the patients, and their expectations in relation to esthetics, interdisciplinary alliance that meets the functional, health, and esthetic needs. A critical factor for the overall success is that of choosing a suitable restorative recourse. Treatment is often expensive and involves multiple specialties. This common but costly issue is important to many dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, periodontics, maxillofacial surgery, anatomy, and even health insurance companies. The available treatment modalities to replace congenitally missing teeth include prosthodontic fixed and removable prostheses, resin bonded retainers, orthodontic movement of maxillary canine to the lateral incisor site and single tooth implants. Dental implants offer a promising treatment option for placement of congenitally missing teeth. Interdisciplinary approach may be needed in these cases. This presentation aims to present a cases reports of replacement of unilaterally congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors with dental implants.
