Title: Avoiding Legal Claims in Endodontics

Abstract:

Patients’ claims of negligence and malpractice subsequent to endodontic misdiagnosis and treatment failures are common. Endodontics is one of the most challenging dental specialties. Due to the huge growth in patient expectations, dentists are becoming more concerned of litigations and regulatory scrutiny. This talk aims to describe the trend of endodontic claims, to identify and analyze the errors commonly encountered by dentists while performing endodontic treatment, and to highlight top tips for avoiding such claims in view of the international guidelines of accepted treatment protocols.

Biography:

Dr. Reema Alghaithy is a consultant endodontist, head of endodontic department and member of the medical records committee at King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She has been serving as a member of inquiry panels’ dealing with patients’ claims on behalf of the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia since 20012 and has a special interest in ethical and legal aspects of dental treatment.

She was awarded the master degree in clinical dentistry in endodontics with distinction from the University of Manchester and she is a member of the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh in the same specialty.
