Title : 3D Printing in Dentistry: Recent Advances & Innovative Workflows

Abstract:

3D printing has experienced a surge in popularity in dentistry, but has been limited to plastics for guides, aligners and dentures.  3D printing with metal and ceramic is still in its infancy, but the workflow has significant advantages over conventional approaches.  This presentation will explore innovations in metal and ceramic 3D printing for dental applications with novel workflows, examples and comparisons to conventional production.  These advances present innovative approaches that are simple, efficient, customizable and inexpensive alternatives.

Biography:

Dr. Les Kalman is an educator, researcher and academic lead for Continuing Dental Education.  His research focuses on innovations in medical devices and technologies, with an emphasis on metal additive manufacturing and software solutions.  He remains active with externally-funded investigations, has published over 40 articles, holds two patents, a trademark and has translated several technologies to industry.

He served on the Board of Directors for University of Western Ontario Faculty Association and the Canadian Association of Public Health Dentistry. He currently serves on the Standards Council of Canada, the Ambassadors Circle and Advanced Credentialing Committee for the ICOI.  He has been recognized as an Academic Associate Fellow (American Academy of Implant Dentistry), Fellow, Master and Diplomate (International Congress of Oral Implantologists), Fellow (Academy of Osseointegration), Fellow (American College of Dentist), Schulich Alumni of Distinction and the Merck Patients First award.
